Welcome back to school

Image
It's been great to return to school and to a sense of normality after months of lockdown. It was equally exciting to get to see the school grounds and see how much P4's (last year) wildflowers had grown and how the trees and willow tunnel had all shot up too! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we cannot get to Auchnacraig Woods so instead we are making the most of the our school grounds. P5/6, P6 and P7 will be working outside with me on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings repectively and should come dressed for going outside and for mud. If you have any outgrown pairs of wellies lying around which are of no use anymore, we would gladly accept them along with waterproofs or old warm jackets. Thank you.

Very busy day in the woods!

The purple group were out in the woods this morning on a bear hunt, following the clues and completing the challenges left by the hiding ted. They found him and escorted him inside safely too. In the afternoon, it was the turn ofP6 and P7 pupils to head to the woods. No bears for them. Just saws and rope courses to try!

Bird Feeding

Image
At this time of year it’s important to help feed the wildlife and P4/5 and P5/6 each ticked off another challenge for their RSPB award by making bird feeders. P4/5 added some brown onion and red onion sets to their raised bed too. Hot choc late was gratefully received by all today as it was rather chilly with the beautiful blue skies. We aren’t complaining though!

New Group Heads to the Woods!

A new group of forest explorers and adventurers took to Auchnacraig woods today and made their first den using their newly acquired knot knowledge of a Figure of 8 knot. They also had a look at the diversity in the woodlands by framing a section of the ground and seeing how many plant species could be found there! It was an extremely enjoyable session and there was some fantastic sharing of knowledge. One of our young folk explained how trees communicate with each other.

Nursery Forest School

We went out a dreich day and I don’t know who had more fun in the puddles: the children or Joanne! Never too old to play as demonstrated here! This group all had a go at using a hammer and nails safely.

P5/6 first session

Today was a shorter session than normal due to a change in my timetable this week. We looked at a couple of knots and the had a quick den building session. Good to see a class work so well together.  I am really looking forward to my Forest school block with them.

P2 Painting with Mud

P2 smashed the “Paint Something You’d Find Outdoors” challenge-they had no paint nor brushes so they had to improvise and improvise they did! They earned their hot chocolate today!
